So to London then...Here I am, had a swell time so far.
went to see The Country Teasers om Saturday night with Rosie.I was tired but went anyhow, and got excited about London and Roise put a pompom in my hair and plyed me with wine. The Country Teasers were awsome and so was Gin Palace.Country Teasers played The Cube once at The Fall night. The Country Teasers main man in like a cross between Billy Childish and Graham Coxon I was thinking. He looks like the geeky guy at school you used to secretly find sexy.God I sound so Indie. Talking of Indie I also bumped into the ultimate Indie kid Neil, or Pet Neil, or little Neil. Neil goes out everynight and he's been doing that pretty much since I've known him which is about 8 years.I met him when I used to go to gigs everynight. He used to live in a first floor room on Portobello in the same room with three other indie girlkids who were in to Jack and PJ Harvery and Placebo.Anyhow Neil has the airs and Graces of a Studio 54 heartthrob. He'll party with anyone and say things like "Darling I love you." whilst he cuddles up to you and strokes your hair and kisses you. Theres something unrequited about Neil. I think Neil should run a label, just to pull cute Indie Boys. The Indie girl playing records after seemed to play the records just for us. Belle and Sebastian followed by Pavement. God I sound so Indie. But this is where I first met Neil at Brad's club "After Dark" as in Make Up, at a club called Gossips in SOHO.This is where my career as a DJ took off. Brad had saved up all his Dole mondy to make this club work. I met him outside a Urusei Yatsura gig and joined the "After Dark" gang. Nobody came really except Neil and his friends and Cupcakes ex boyfriend Chris. But they came and when The Pixies played I found myself falling to the dance floor with them.God I sound so Indie.
Sunday, Everyday is like Sunday.
Me up with Coral who had been to an operating theatre, but didn't feel like being morbid. But walked to The Approach Tavern and saw some painting with flourescent photocopies, and lucid colours. Ambitiously made like they had been made on the street. In the Approach we bumped in to Rachel Baker and Gil who both seemed to ask me "What are you doing here" as if I had never been to London before.I don't know maybe they don't know me in that context. Coral and I walked and talked and went to the Transition Gallery to see the show and bump into Cathy Lomax for a cup of tea. Soul miming is great. It was good to see the space in the light, as it seemed dark and dingy at the Arty Book launch. I liked all the work, and how it worked together. Transition are god at doing this. Which obviously every gallery should be. But they do seem to be creating a niche for all these artists who do shows and projects there. Like they are all united in some special way. Esther Planas installation see http://www.clubesther.biz features her effort to be a dark pop star in a domestic setting and with a letter from David Stephenson into the bargain, saying how she shoud further her pop career and what he can do to help her. David used to be an art/music schmoozer hanging out with people like that guy out of Jack. Actually let me talke back the word schmoozer he had ambitions of running a record label and night and did. David Stephenson used to work at his brothers gallery, and I once went out with him to The Picadilly Cafe to talk about my art career.Tho I didnt really have one then. Jessica has got a letter like the one that Esther Planas has got. It's nice to think of David trying to help all these yound starlets. He's a primary teacher in Suffolk now. Anyhow back throught the park looking at the man burn his leaves and talking about stuff. Coral seems to open the world up into a sea of possibilities. She's got so many tails to tell. It's like having all the people Fly( comic book artist) teling you their stories at the same time. had dinner and choc brownies and met a sk8/squater/biker guy called Chris and watched Jean Genet Querelle film adaptaion which features a never ending sunset.
On Monday I got my hair cut, managed to fit Coral for first breakfast, David Woollett at home for second breakfast. Emily woollett for a drink at Trafalger square at lunchtime. A vidal schoolhair appointment ( It's very styled)for 3 and half hours. The Cinema Luminaire for Hitchcocks Shadow of A Doubt (A brilliant Hitchcock!) Then a stroll from Notting Hill gate across to Ladbroke Grove, and to Jessica's to see her and Miranda's new Queens Park residence.
Today I am in Easy Everything, when I should be at the National Portrait Gallery and The Woman's library. There is so much to do here and it's so exciting. I feel a genuine affection for the city I used to once love a long time ago. I think I really should come back here.I am thinking through all the things I could do if I came here. I would like to curate more culture. I could do the curating course at The Royal college maybe, I would write an art blog for sure. Or write about everything I went to see and did. I would start a London sk8 team. I dunno it just is doing it for me so much. |
